Malaysian students and ‘house mother’, 1976

Mrs F. A. Ridland, a ‘house mother’ to 14 young Malaysian students at their Wellington hostel, displays the airline ticket that will whisk her away to Singapore and Malaysia for a three-month holiday. Over 50 Malaysian and Singaporean students had banded together to pay for her trip. Her hosts when she arrived in Asia were those she had previously looked after who had finished their studies and returned home.
