Story: Bay of Plenty region

Metroport, Auckland

Metroport, Auckland

In 1999 Port of Tauranga Ltd pioneered the first inland ‘port’ in New Zealand. The facility in South Auckland had a dedicated rail service to the port of Tauranga. This enabled Tauranga to gain the custom of shipping lines, exporters and importers wanting to move goods in and out of the Auckland region. The Auckland skyline can be seen in the distance.
