Image
Oil spill, Milford Sound

With a restricted circulation of water, fiords are extremely vulnerable to oil and sewage spills. This diesel spill occurred in Milford Sound in February 2004. A layer 2–3 millimetres thick spread across the harbour and extended 2 kilometres up the sound.
