Historian Ian McGibbon kneels at the site of a trench at Gallipoli, Turkey, during a 2012 archaeological survey of the First World War battlefield site. McGibbon was part of the Joint Historical and Archaeological Survey agreed to by the New Zealand, Australian and Turkish governments in 2005. It used non-invasive, advanced mapping and GPS technology to record positions. At the time the survey had located and recorded about 800 artifacts.
