By 1999 the fifth and final volume of the Dictionary of New Zealand biography was in production, and many of the staff working on it had been with the project for years. General Editor Claudia Orange is pictured at the head of the table (left), with staff (clockwise) Ross Somerville, Roberta McIntyre (Nicholls), Diana Beaglehole, Nicola Barnett, Alison Buchan, Neill Atkinson, Angela Ballara, Tairongo Amoamo, Shirley Williams, Kath Clark, Hilary Stace, Jamie Mackay, Bharti Jeram, Ray Prebble, Louise Buckingham, Brian O'Brien and (obscured) Nancy Swarbrick. Absent is Teremoana Sparks.
