John Barsby, 2011

Professor John Barsby (centre), a specialist in Greek and Latin literature, retired from the classics chair at the University of Otago in 2002 but continued to teach there. In 2011 Dunedin-born Roger Paulin (left) of Cambridge University donated a 1724 edition of a classical Greek text, On the sublime by Longinus, to the University of Otago. Barsby co-ordinated the gift, which is held in the library's special collections, overseen by curator Donald Kerr (right).
