Story: Digital media and the internet

Papers Past (1st of 2)

Papers Past

The Papers Past website was an initiative of the National Library of New Zealand and involved the digitisation of over 80 New Zealand newspapers covering the years 1839 to 1945. By early 2014 the site contained more than 39 million newspaper articles. Because the content is searchable by word as well as date, it has revolutionised the study of New Zealand history and opened up subjects which would previously have required time-consuming sleuthing.
