In the 2000s New Zealanders, especially younger ones, have increasingly followed the news on the internet – at first on computers but increasingly from cell phones. To facilitate this the major news organisations, Fairfax and APN, developed sophisticated websites and mobile apps (smartphone applications). Fairfax pulled together material from a range of their regional newspapers such as the Dominion Post and the Press into the Stuff site, which eventually earned more revenue than the print newspapers.
