Carte de visite of Mary Cameron, late 19th century

Carte de visite of Mary Cameron, late 19th century

The carte de visite was a small photograph popular in the second half of the 19th century. So-called because it was initially used as a visiting card, the carte de visite was inexpensive and allowed ordinary people to have their portraits taken for the first time. This is Mary Cameron, photographed by Wrigglesworth & Binns of Wellington.
