John Kinder's photograph of Kotanui Rock, 1868 (5th of 5)

John Kinder's photograph of Kotanui Rock, 1868

Clergyman and teacher John Kinder was a skilled amateur photographer. His landscapes captured what were to him the wonders of God's creations. His 1868 photograph of Kotanui Rock in Whangaparāoa records a monumental landmark that almost possesses architectural qualities in its regularity of form. Kinder was also a photographer of architecture.
