Iris Wilkinson, who wrote under the pen name of Robin Hyde, was a prolific and highly talented writer. Her work ranged from journalism to novels. She had a difficult personal life and spent four years as a voluntary patient at Grey Lodge mental hospital, but was continually writing throughout that time. Eventually she travelled via China to England. Her poems set in China, published in Dragon rampant (1939), include some of her finest work. She died in England in 1939 at the age of 33.
