Lyon and Blair printers

Lyon and Blair printers

Printers are at work in the premises of Lyon and Blair in Wellington in the late 19th century. The firm was established when John Blair joined William Lyon in his bookselling and printing firm, and then became a partner with William's son Horatio in 1874. Blair soon bought out Horatio, but retained Lyon in the name of the firm, which became an important printer and publisher for the next 20 years. The firm was sold to Whitcombe and Tombs in 1894, allowing Blair the opportunity to become mayor of Wellington.
