Annie Henry (seated, right), with fellow deaconess, Sister Isabel (centre back), Tūhoe chief Tawhare (seated, centre) and his iwi. Henry built an affectionate bond with the Tūhoe people during her time amongst them as a Presbyterian missionary from 1917 until 1948. This photograph appears to have been taken when she was presented with gifts, including a calabash said to have been brought to New Zealand on the Mataatua canoe and an iron pot believed to have come from one of James Cook's ships.
