Mason Durie

Mason Durie (Rangitāne, Ngāti Kauwhata), a psychiatrist by profession, was appointed to the chair of Māori Studies at Massey University, Palmerston North, in 1988. He later became Massey's professor of Māori Research and Development and the chair of Te Kāhui Amokura, the Committee on Māori, which provides advice to New Zealand universities on issues of Māori studies and Māori scholarship.
