Night rogaine

Night rogaine

Rogaining, like orienteering, can be done anywhere and at any time. Anne Owens and Kaimai Buchanan are shown here looking over their maps before setting off on a night rogaine in 2011 in St Heliers, an Auckland suburb. This introductory race was part of a winter street series run by the Auckland Orienteering Club. Competitors could choose the number of control points they had to find in the three hours allowed, using maps that did not include street names but did have location descriptions, such as 'rock cluster' or 'postbox'.  Each control point visited earned points, based on the difficulty of getting there.
