The Tamagotchi invasion, 1997

Children from Newlands Intermediate, Wellington, play with their Tamagotchis, in 1997. Tamagotchi is a computer game on a key chain, where virtual pets are fed and cared for electronically. The game was a huge craze in 1997. Some schools ended up banning Tamagotchi as the game began to disrupt classes.
