Hape (3rd of 3)

Hape

This carving of Hape stands just below Tiriwa at the Arataki Visitors' Centre. Hape, also known as Rakataura, was the senior priest on the Tainui canoe. Since the Waikato people are also from Tainui, Hape is shown in the Waikato style of carving.
