Three of the trustees of Ongaroto marae, near Ātiamuri in south Waikato, are outside their wharenui (meeting house), Whaita. Among the responsibilities of this marae's trustees is kaitiakitanga (guardianship) of nearby Pōhaturoa Hill, a historic dwelling place of the Ngāti Whaita people.
