Story: Ngāti Maniapoto

Descendants of Europeans (1st of 4)

Descendants of Europeans

George Searancke (Hōri Hērangi) is a descendant of William Nicholas Searancke, who arrived in New Zealand in 1845. While in the Waipā district he met and married Hāriata of Ngāti Maniapoto, and they lived around Te Kōpua, at the foot of the ancestral mountain Kakepuku. Te Puea Hērangi, one of the most influential women of her time, was also a descendant of William Nicholas Searancke (Hērangi is a transliteration of Searancke).
