Fale, Spring Hill Corrections Facility

Fale, Spring Hill Corrections Facility

The fale (meeting room) at Spring Hill Corrections Facility was built specifically for Pacific Island prisoners, to work in conjunction with New Zealand's first prison Pacific Focus Unit (Vaka Fa'aola). The aim is to carry out strategies that will help stop Pacific prisoners from reoffending. In December 2011, 11.5% of prisoners were of Pacific ethnicity. In the 2006 census Pacific peoples made up 6.9% of the total population.
