Such is the growth and rapid change associated with air travel that airport terminals are constantly modified or rebuilt before they have time to gain heritage value. In 2010 Paul Pascoe's original terminal was deemed antiquated and was demolished. It was replaced with an equally stunning building partly designed by the Christchurch architectural practice Warren and Mahoney. The roof's apex at its entrance resembles a bird in flight.
