Story: Interest groups

Mai Chen

Mai Chen

One of New Zealand's most prominent lobbyists in the early 21st century was lawyer Mai Chen. In 2006 she acted for the Whangamatā Marina Society in a High Court judicial review after Minister of Conservation Chris Carter declined a resource consent for a new marina in the town. The court found the minister had not followed proper processes and the development was allowed to proceed. Here Chen crosses Molesworth Street with Whangamatā Marina Society president Mick Kelly on their way to the High Court – Parliament is in the background.
