Housewives' class, Wellington Polytechnic, 1965

Not all polytechnic enrolments were for career development – many students attended 'hobby' classes for personal interest. These women are attending what the Evening Post newspaper described as a 'housewives' class' in 1965. Wellington Polytechnic tutor Jeannie Gander (standing) is talking about entertaining, hair styling, make-up and dress, while the students are taking notes.
