Lower Hutt police officer Guy Bradley uses LiveScan to capture a fingerprint in a demonstration of the new fingerprint-scanning technology first introduced as a pilot scheme in November 2006. LiveScan electronically reads fingerprints and palms, and provides instant matches if fingerprints are held in the national database. A further 40 LiveScan units were rolled out across the country in early 2007, largely replacing the traditional ink and paper process.
