Rongo-i-te-kai, Mahinaarangi, Māui, Paikea and Tōmuri Keane each hold a small piece of dirt symbolising the shares held by their kuia (grandmother) in a block of Māori land also owned by hundreds of others. If the children inherited her shares, each of them would own a piece of land about the size of the dirt in their hands.
