Hone and Jean Tūwhare, 1964

Hone and Jean Tūwhare, 1964

Hone and Jean Tūwhare were photographed at Tūrangawaewae marae at Ngaruawāhia during their visit in 1964. Jean supported her husband’s writing ambitions, but the marriage was unsettled, partly because of cultural differences, and partly because Jean was often left to run the household and raise their sons alone.
