Artist Joanna Paul produced this sketch of Hone Tuwhare about 1970, around the time he was Burns Fellow at the University of Otago in Dunedin. Paul was well-known to Tuwhare, being the daughter of New Zealand publishers Janet and Blackwood Paul, who produced Tuwhare’s first book of poetry, No ordinary sun.
