Story: Youth organisations

Rangers and Venturers, 1971

Rangers and Venturers, 1971

Some of the 136 Rangers and Venturers – the senior age groups of Guides and Scouts – from all over New Zealand who gathered outside Parliament in September 1971 after working for three years to become Queen's Scouts and Guides. To gain the award, individuals aged between 17 and 19 had to pass tests in topics such as first aid. At this time many youth organisations had declining memberships across all age groups and especially struggled to retain teenagers.
