Wearing the distinctive 'coal-scuttle' bonnet and maroon uniform of a Salvation Army female officer, a young woman gets ready to cycle off on her duties, probably in the early 1900s. Women soon gained leading positions with the New Zealand Salvation Army, which angered more established churches such as the Anglicans.
