Springbok tour protest, Hamilton, 1981

Carrying a large cross, two members of St John's College rush onto the ground before a scheduled match between the South African Springboks and the Waikato rugby team in Hamilton in 1981. Two supporters of the tour try to stop them. St John's is the main centre for training Anglican clergy. Many of its students and staff took part in the nationwide protests against the 1981 Springbok tour because team members were chosen on the basis of race.
