Story: Workshop industries

Blokarts

Blokarts

These nippy little land yachts, known as blokarts, are hurtling along Karioitahi Beach, near Auckland. Paul Beckett developed these wind-powered vehicles in his workshop at Pāpāmoa, in the Bay of Plenty. Blokart International is still based at Pāpāmoa, and exports most of its products to Australia, the US, Europe and Asia. However the company employed just seven people in 2009, ensuring that it retains its workshop scale.
