Attempted merger

In 2003 the Commerce Commission rejected a proposed merger between Qantas and Air New Zealand. The Commerce Commission is a watchdog body that attempts to ensure there is enough market competition to favour the consumer. They felt the proposed deal would damage competition and lead to higher air fares.
