Aiming for zero waste

Aiming for zero waste

Several members of the New Zealand Business Council for Sustainable Development are aiming for zero waste. Trevor Johnston, manager of corporate responsibility at The Warehouse, is shown here at Enviroreel, a plastics recycling centre in Mt Wellington, Auckland. The mountain of used plastic – mainly shopping bags and pallet wrap – the Warehouse sent to Enviroreel each year became thousands of metres of cable covering. While saving money was a motivating factor for the company’s commitment to zero waste, environmental concerns were primary for employees involved in the project.
