Cabaret crowd

Cities generally become more sexually charged at night, when people lower their inhibitions and seek to have a good time. Dances were a popular way for people to meet potential short- or long-term partners. This 1954 photograph of Wellington’s Majestic Cabaret highlights the style and glamour of such events in the mid-20th century.
