Wellington rubbish truck, 1951

A rubbish man carries a metal container to a rubbish truck in central Wellington in 1951. Motorised trucks and burial of rubbish had become the norm by the late 1930s. The rubbish was destined for small tips that had opened in various parts of the city – usually a gully that was filled in.
