Rag-and-bone man

Rag-and-bone man

A man with his hand-pushed cart does the rounds in Dunedin’s Cumberland Street in 1952. Rag-and-bone men were junk dealers. They would make their rounds, shouting, and people would bring out things they didn’t want. In an era when few people owned cars, a trip to the dump was not an option.
