Who are you going to call?

These fridge magnets give the toll-free number of the state-owned Earthquake Commission (EQC) for reporting earthquake, slip and volcano damage. EQC (renamed Natural Hazards Commission Toka Tū Ake in 2024) pays claims for property damage caused by earthquake, landslip, volcanic eruption, geothermal activity or tsunami, and storms or floods on residential land. The commission also researches and plans the most effective responses to large-scale natural disasters. Insurance companies charge policy owners a disaster insurance premium, which is then paid to the commission.
