Premier Richard Seddon (on horseback, centre) and a carriage containing his fellow travellers, including his wife, pause outside the Terminus Hotel, Ōtira. The blurred figure on horseback on the left is thought to be his secretary. This is typical of how Seddon travelled to and from the West Coast – he would ride, while luggage and family members were carried in the coach.
