Rowi (Ōkārito brown kiwi) are found only in a small area near Ōkārito on the West Coast. Rowi are greyish in colour, and often have patches of white feathers on their faces. Male and female rowi take turns to look after the eggs, whereas for most other kiwi species only males perform this task. The bird shown here is a chick.
