Wheat for loading

Wheat harvested from across the Waimea Plains waits to be loaded onto the ‘wheat train’ to Gore and beyond, while drivers, horses, and a buggy and carts stand by. Grain output was falling at this time, around 1899, as land was converted to serve more lucrative pastoral farming – a new dairy factory is visible in the background.
