NIWA research

Working with AgResearch, Landcare, HortResearch and commercial companies, NIWA has been developing a simulation model to predict the effects of different land uses on stream water quality. This model is called CLUES – the Catchment Land Use for Environmental Sustainability system. This map shows the nitrate leaching risk in various parts of a selected catchment. CLUES also predicts phosphorus losses.
