This hay barn was built to hold traditional small bales of hay, which needed to be covered for protection from rain. They were stacked in barns, carefully, so the stack did not collapse as the hay settled. Big round bales have replaced small bales, and can be handled with machinery. However, they are difficult to stack in barns. Some of these lower bales have been eaten away by sheep, causing the top ones to fall.
