Sumatran tigers mating

Zoos run breeding programmes managed by a stud-book keeper, who oversees planned matings of captive species to avoid inbreeding. Auckland Zoo cooperates with other zoos worldwide to ensure there is a healthy captive population of the endangered Sumatran tiger, in case the tiger becomes extinct in the wild.
