Loading a seed drill

Loading a seed drill

Two men are filling the fertiliser box on a seed drill. There is also a box in front for the seed. A drill can be calibrated for sowing different sized seeds and different rates of fertiliser. The seed and fertiliser are metered out by a mechanism driven by the drill’s wheels as it is pulled along. The seed and fertiliser fall down separate tubes behind the coulter (blade) and are ‘drilled’ into the soil.
