Story: Coarse fish

Tench

Tench

Tench are classified as ‘sports fish’, and anglers require a licence to legally fish for them. These fish live in slow-moving waters or still waters. They were introduced to New Zealand in 1867, but there has been little interest in fishing for them until recently. Anglers in the Auckland area target certain ponds where the tench can grow up to 4 kilograms in weight.
