Chain-and-slot type catch

Image
Chain-and-slot type catch

This type of catch can be commercially produced or home-made. It consists of a chain, either wired or bolted to the gate, or stapled to the gate post, which fits into a slot. There is nothing to prevent cattle from lifting the chain and opening the gate.
