This is probably the most common commercially-made gate catch used in New Zealand. It consists of a hook on a chain, which is bolted onto the gate or stapled onto the gate post. The hook fits through a heavy staple driven into the post. A light spring-clip is fitted to stop cattle lifting the hook and opening the gate.
