Short-horned grasshopper

This grasshopper is at Lake Tennyson, in the Southern Alps. Most of New Zealand's 15 endemic species of grasshopper are found in alpine areas of the South Island. Active by day, they are commonly seen in tussock grasslands, where they feed. They are herbivores.
