1901 royal visit

1901 royal visit

The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York pass under a ceremonial arch on Lambton Quay during their 1901 visit to Wellington. Keen to show their loyalty to the royal family and British Empire, thousands of Wellingtonians turned out to welcome them. The words on the arch read ‘Ma te atua korua e atawhai’ – ‘God bless the two of you’.
