Story: Small forest birds

Yellow-crowned parakeet (1st of 2)

Yellow-crowned parakeet

The yellow-crowned parakeet has a red band above the bill, and yellow feathers on the top of its head. They are now the most numerous parakeets on the mainland, although they are mainly restricted to remote forests, and are in gradual decline. Yellow-crowned parakeets are also found on Stewart and Auckland islands.
